Volunteer and Student Participation
WUNH is very grateful for the incredible support offered by our students and volunteers. At any one time WUNH has two to four students working with us as well as volunteers.
WUNH’s projects are not only fun and creative, but they provide opportunities for powerful learning and cultural sharing. These include The Dirty Laundry Day Project, Yarning and Weaving and the White Ribbon Day Exhibition, and Reclaiming the Night.
The Yarning and Weaving Group is a gathering of women from the Casino, Ballina and Lismore areas. Different women come every time and some women always come. Gwen Hickling, an Elder from Casino, and local weaving women from Brunswick and Kyogle help WUNH Inc. and Bunjum Aboriginal Family service to run the Yarning and Weaving days. Local women learn traditional weaving techniques while sharing stories and local wisdom. They yarn about domestic violence and what women need when they seek support or have experienced domestic violence.
The Dirty Laundry Day Project and White Ribbon Day Exhibition are two powerful programs that build awareness around domestic violence.
